Frances Mcfarland, PhD, MA

Frances has more than 15 years of experience in science and medical writing and editing. She has worked on a variety of projects, including slide decks, literature reviews, continuing medical education pieces, conference reports, and journal and newsletter articles. Dr. McFarland recently drafted and revised company slide decks on product indications in pulmonology, rheumatology, and ophthalmology, and she has developed a slide deck on iron overload in patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia. She also has written interactive e-book chapters on treatments for the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis; the hepatitis C life cycle; treatments for hepatitis C genotype 3; the etiology and pathophysiology of hypoparathyroidism; and the etiology, pathophysiology, screening, and diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Dr. McFarland has worked with investigators on journal articles based on workshops exploring the integration of geriatrics and gerontology into the medical subspecialties. These articles have been published in journals such as the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, Diabetes, Clinical Infectious Diseases, and the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. McFarland has covered conferences on a wide array of topics across several disciplines, including geriatrics, infectious diseases, oncology, and cardiovascular disease, and she has summarized discussions on patient-centered outcomes and pragmatic clinical trials. She has a Ph.D. in biological sciences and an M.A. in writing, science writing concentration.
